*Eid-al-Adha Mubarak-
The word "Eid" means festival or celebration and "Adha" means sacrifice. Eid al-Adha serves as a reminder of faith, sacrifice and gratitude. It highlights the importance of obeying God's commandments and helping those in need. The festival fosters a sense of community and strengthens family bonds as people come together to offer blessings.
Eid-al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son to obey God's command. As Prophet Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son, God provided him with a lamb as a substitute, showing his approval of Ibrahim's devotion. Therefore, Eid-al-Adha is a time of remembrance, gratitude and obedience to God's will. Eid-al-Adha is celebrated every year on the 10th day of Dhu-al-Hijjah, the twelfth and last month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Since the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, the exact date may change each year depending on the sighting of the moon.
During Eid-al-Adha, Muslims participate in many religious rituals and practices. One of the central aspects of the festival is the sacrifice of an animal, typically a sheep, goat, cow or camel. The animal must meet certain criteria and be slaughtered following Islamic guidelines. The meat of the sacrificed animal is divided into three portions: one portion for the person making the sacrifice and his family, one portion for relatives and friends, and one portion for the less fortunate or needy. In addition to the sacrifice, Muslims gather for collective prayers in mosques or large open spaces.
They listen to a sermon delivered by an imam, pondering the importance of Eid-al-Adha and its messages of faith, sacrifice and charity. It is customary for Muslims to dress in their best attire, exchange greetings and gifts, visit family and friends, and share meals together.
Eid-al-Adha is a time of joy, unity and compassion. It reminds us of the importance of faith, sacrifice and helping those in need. It promotes a sense of community and strengthens family bonds as people come together to celebrate and share blessings.
